Vallee Blanche

I have amazing memories of our ski excursion with Svetlana, Jacky and Cyril on the Vallée Blanche, the glacier running from the Aiguille du Midi (3842m) all the way down to the valley more than 2000m below. After a vertiginous climb in the cable car from Chamonix, and a steep walk down the edge of a cliff to reach the glacier, you can put your skis on and marvel at a landscape almost untouched for thousands of years.

It was a nice long (but easy) ski ride down the mountain, and I must have taken hundreds of pictures, but I think that this is my favourite.

Macho

I’ve been to many a bullfight (or “corrida de toro”) when I was living in Madrid, but I never took my camera to one. With hindsight, a big mistake since I would have loved to capture Jose Tomás first steps in front of the world’s most difficult crowd, and his triumphant exit carried over their shoulder through the main gate, an extremely rare occurrence in Las Ventas. Oh well, you can’t win’em all I guess.

So this time, when we came back for a long weekend, I took my 70-200 zoom out, and was ready to fill in a few memory cards. It didn’t turn out to be the best bullfight ever, far from it, but I still managed to capture a few fun shots like this one.

Bottles

The wine cellar below the Château de Beaune in Burgundy, now home to the Domaine Bouchard headquarters, is a fabulous place, with bottles dating back to 1846 in the section they affectionately refer to as “The Museum”. Time seems to have stopped there, while the neatly stacked bottles await for their tasting fate.

You can read more about the story of the cave there or have a look at my original picture.

Central Park

Central Park in the spring is stunning. When you are lucky enough to wander in the park outside of the weekend you sometimes stumble upon quiet moments when you could almost forget about the city around you.

In the black&white version it is easier to appreciate the contrast between the shadows and the light playing through the foliage, but the colour version is also striking in its overdose of green shades.

Sunset

We had an amazing time in Kenya, and I must have taken hundreds of pictures of wild animals, but I always come back to this picture of the African skyline with the sun setting down on the Masai Mara, as we are driving back to the tents. It is difficult to picture the vast expanses of emptiness where the animals roam, and sometimes it is good to take off the telephoto lens…

I love this picture in black&white, but the colours are gorgeous as well.
